DREAM LABOR PRESS

Dream Labor Press is a collective self-publishing project founded by a group of Chinese female graphic designer-authors who are primarily based in the United States. Our work focuses on storytelling and fiction-making in the liminal space between places and identities.

By means of zines, artist books and other small publications, we play with objects, symbols and memories. We endeavor to communicate layered narratives that resonate with different walks of audiences and to push the boundaries of design.

SLOW APPRECIATION

Zhenyu  Zhou
2022

5.5 x 8.5 inch
Spiral binding
20 pages
Focusing on the concept of “useless aesthetic,” this pamphlet serves as the prototype of the idea “Slow Appreciation.”  The designer uncovers overlooked aspects in everyday life and promotes a more focused lifestyle by merging these everyday features into design through personal experiences and interactions with loved ones and friends.

The Chinese handwriting with distinctive quivering strokes comes from the practice work of the designer's grandfather, who suffers from Parkinson's and lives in a nursing home now.
