Dream Labor Press is a self-publishing collective founded by a group of Chinese female graphic designer-authors who are based in the United States and China. Our work focuses on storytelling and fiction-making in the liminal space between places and identities.
By means of zines, artist books and other small publications, we play with objects, symbols and memories. We endeavor to communicate layered narratives that resonate with different walks of audiences and to push the boundaries of design.

MUSEUM OF THE INEXPLICABLE
Vyolet Jin/Doris Liu
2024
5.5 x 8.5 inch
Saddle-stitched zine, transparent stickers
28 pages
Through illustrator Vyolet Jin’s whimsical associations, the trivia of everyday life take on inexplicable identities and stories: the grill has different expressions because of the ways the meat slices are placed on it, and the ketchup squeezed on the hash browns looks like calligraphic work. In collaboration with designer Doris Liu, these bright ideas are compiled into a unique list of exhibits in the form of a catalog of the fictional “Museum of the Inexplicable”, with the original photographs that inspired them as an appendix.
Each zine comes with a sticker sheets of the ‘exhibits’ and packaged with a custom header of the museum.
